NEWS | MEGAN COPE LATEST RECIPIENT OF WA INDIGENOUS ART AWARDS
SGAR artist Megan Cope is the latest recipient of the Western Australia Indigenous Art Awards for her video artwork The Blaktism.
The $50,000 prize founded in 2008 to celebrates the scope, diversity and excellence of art from all corners of Indigenous Australia.
The Blaktism is a satirical new media work exploring Cope’s recent experience in obtaining her ‘Certificate of Aboriginality’. The work translates issues of authenticity, power, cultural transgression, race and popular culture within an Australian context, presented in a crisp HD pop video.
Megan´s video work and the other finalists can be seen at the Art Gallery of Western Australia until 12 October 2015. You can find more information on the prize and finalist exhibition here.
